5th Cappadocia Gastronomy Festival

The 5th Cappadocia Gastronomy Festival Concluded with the Theme “Local Heritage, Starry Tables”

Under the auspices of the Nevşehir Governorate, the 5th Cappadocia Gastronomy Festival, led and hosted by Cappadocia University (KÜN) at the Mustafapaşa Campus on May 15-16, 2026, has come to an end. The event brought together Anatolia’s culinary culture, local production traditions, and a sustainable gastronomy approach with academic expertise. The festival took place in the squares, the courtyards of stone mansions, and the streets of Mustafapaşa.

The Theme “Local Heritage, Starry Tables” Was Explored

The festival was organized under the theme “Local Heritage, Starry Tables.” With the word “star” in the theme, a reference was made not only to quality in gastronomy but also to the Pleiades Constellation (Ülker), which is a symbol of abundance, seasonal transformation, and coming together in Turkish culture. Throughout the events, Cappadocia’s local culinary culture, the productive power of the soil, and Anatolia’s tradition of collective labor (imece) were explored.

Sessions Focused on Education and Professional Development

The festival program was conducted to support the professional development of high school and university students studying in the fields of gastronomy, tourism, food and beverage services, culinary arts, agriculture, sustainability, and cultural heritage. Sectoral awareness among the participants was raised through sessions attended by expert academics, industry professionals, chefs, and researchers.

What Was Done During the Two-Day Festival Program?

Many events were held as part of the two-day program on May 15-16. Products were exhibited with the participation of regional producers, women’s cooperatives, and artists at the newly established Cappadocia Local Producers Market. In the “Stars of Cappadocia” stands area, street foods prepared by Cappadocian chefs were presented to participants at various tasting points.

At the Gastronomy Stage of the event, “Cappadocian Cuisine from Local to Global” talks were held, where the success stories of chefs and businesses were shared, accompanied by musical performances. Thanks to the Mustafapaşa Flavor Route, created within the historical atmosphere of Mustafapaşa, various presentations were made to participants at specially prepared tasting stops.

Thematic meetings within the program included sessions titled “Cappadocian Gastronomy at the Intersection of Cultures” and “The Cappadocia Historical Vineyard Route and Sustainable Gastronomy.” Additionally, a cooking competition was organized where participants presented their own recipes and interpretations of Cappadocian cuisine.

Organized within the framework of sustainable gastronomy principles, such as using local products in their season, reducing waste, and preserving traditional knowledge, the festival concluded with the successful completion of all planned events.
