KAM Talks: Urban Archaeology of the Ottoman Period

The Cappadocia Cultural Research Center (KAM) is hosting the first conference of the spring semester as part of its “KAM Talks” series, with the theme “Archaeology and Art History.”

As part of this series, Prof. Dr. Filiz Yenişehirlioğlu, Director of Koç University’s VEKAM, will deliver a lecture titled “Urban Archaeology of the Ottoman Period” on Friday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m. Yenişehirlioğlu will discuss how Ottoman urban settlements can be interpreted through various sources, including archaeological data, endowment deeds, architectural structures, and the urban image.

During the talk, the opportunities that the urban archaeology approach offers for Ottoman studies will be discussed with the aid of concrete examples. In particular, the assessment of urban stratification and physical traces from the Ottoman period, based on the excavations at the Tekfur Palace in Istanbul, will be one of the focal points of the talk.

We invite everyone interested in Ottoman-era cultural heritage, urban history, and archaeology to this lecture. To register, simply send an email to kam@kapadokya.edu.tr.
