Within the scope of its research on the cultural heritage of Mustafapaşa, Cappadocia University has revived “peşniçka,” a forgotten holiday tradition of the region.
According to information obtained from studies conducted by the Cappadocia Research Center (KAM), “peşniçka,” a special food, used to be distributed in Mustafapaşa on the eve of holidays. According to Ülkiye AK from Mustafapaşa, this food, traditionally prepared on every holiday eve, is now almost unknown and no longer practiced.
“Peşniçka” is made by spreading halva on chickpea bread, a traditional type of bread baked in the homes of Mustafapaşa migrants.
Kapadokya University revived this tradition on the eve of Eid al-Adha to preserve this cultural heritage. Prepared by Arzum Karabıyık, Director of University Student Housing and Cafeteria Manager, “peşniçka” was first served to Kapadokya University Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Karasar and university staff. It was then distributed to the villagers and shopkeepers, reviving the old holiday spirit of Mustafapaşa.
This initiative became an important part of Cappadocia University’s efforts to preserve and promote the cultural identity and forgotten values of the region.
